Debasis Manna was born in West Bengal, India. He completed his B.Sc. in Chemistry at Narendrapur Residential College, Calcutta University, India. He then moved to the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB), India, where he received M.Sc. degree in Physical Chemistry. He was awarded a doctoral fellowship from the University of Illinois at Chicago, USA, and worked under the supervision of Professor Wonhwa Cho. His thesis research work was on "Membrane Binding and Mechanistic Insights into the Phosphoinositide Interacting Protein Domains". He subsequently moved to the group of Professor Gautam Basu at the Bose Institute, Kolkata, India, to gain postdoctoral research experience in the mechanistic studies of glutamate-tRNA ligase. In 2009, he began his independent research career in the Department of Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. Currently, he serves as a professor at the same institute. His current research interests focus on synthetic ion transporters and cancer immunotherapy.
